5 decking ideas to inspire your next garden project

Whether you like moving with trends and switching up your outdoor area every year, or you’re planning on tackling it for the first time in a new home, your decking can shape the way you use your outdoor space for years to come.

And as we head towards spring and the warmer weather that comes with it (hopefully!), now is a good time to start planning your next outdoor project.

If you’re feeling a little stuck for ideas or just looking for some inspiration, you’re in luck – we’ve put together these 5 tips to help transform your garden.

1. Pave the way

Conventional stone pathways do the job, but using decking instead can add a sleek, modern look to your outdoor area.

Consider framing the edges of the path with pebbles or tall plants to add an extra touch of style.

2. Light it up

Decking lights are not only practical, but can be used to create atmosphere on those balmy summer evenings.

Mounted on your deckboards themselves, lights can add ambience to evening meals, and by carefully arranging plants nearby you can enjoy dramatic shadows and shimmers.

3. Make a statement with colour

No matter the size of your decking area or the state of your garden furniture, a bold coat of paint can add an eye-catching twist and is an easy way of breathing new life into your patio.

Combine this with coloured cushions and candles to create a space that is all your own.

4. Level things out

Decking is perfect if your garden is uneven or on a slope as it can be built on a structure. Split levels and steps are great for levelling out awkward spaces.

You could even try making your decking an extension of your home by levelling it with your internal floor, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside.

5. Add grip all year round

The British weather can be treacherous in winter and notoriously unpredictable in summer, rendering your decking a potential hazard for slips and falls.

Whatever style you choose to go with for your outdoor area this year, it’s a good idea to safety-proof it from the start with a solution that will work whatever the weather throws at you.

Coming with a 5-year warranty, DeckWright anti-slip are tested and accredited, easily installed and longer lasting than anti-slip paint. You can request a free sample by calling 01482 338 950, or view our online store here.
