WJ Timber Treatments

Case study: How our timber treatment has made Bracken Burrows a safer place to holiday

Nestled in the heart of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Bracken Burrows is home to several high-end glamping pods that are looked after by Nick, Lucy and their four dogs, Alf, Rupert, Kit and Jinx. The pods are popular with families and couples, and attract lots of walkers and cyclists due to being situated close to the Minster Way walking route and the National Cycle Route 1.

Built in Hull, the pods come fully kitted out with en-suites, log burners and cooking facilities. Little touches such as vegan toiletries make the pods truly a home from home – but every home needs to be safe. Nick and Lucy knew how slippery decking can get, particularly with frost and slime in winter, so they commissioned WJ to make the outdoor areas surrounding the pods safer all year round.

The WJ team visited the site to see the decking in situe, before using TreatWright high pressure preservative treatment to protect the timber against all forms of biological decay. A layer of Bauxite was added to provide extra grip for the adults and children staying at Bracken Burrows. For Nick, the most important thing is that the product just works. He told us that it saves him worrying about guests having accidents, and added that “It’s built to last, so we’ve got no worries further down the line”.

Nick plans to add log-fired hot tubs to the pods in early 2018, and knows how important treated decking is when it comes to getting in and out safely.
