September sees WJ Group MD, Mark Eggleston embarking on two long distance runs to fundraise for an often overlooked charity called GAIN.
Mark joins a team that includes his daughter Lucy (pictured right), brother Richard, previous Gullian-Barré sufferer Paul Waine and of course their physio, Sam Havler. They will attempt the Great North Run on 11th September and the Hull Marathon on 18thSeptember.
GAIN (Gullian-Barré & Associated Inflammatory Neuropathies) supports Gullian-Barré syndrome, which is an acute disorder of the peripheral nerves, often preceded by a respiratory infection, causing weakness and often paralysis of the limbs. It can affect perfectly healthy individuals at any time and is most common in those aged 30-50 years. Recovery from the illness takes a long time and there are 1,200 reported cases in the UK each year.
The condition affected Mark’s good friend, Paul Waine and for this reason, the team (which includes Paul, following his lengthy recovery) intend to raise awareness and funds for the charity by achieving this gruelling challenge.
Mark has been in training for many months and there will be no let-up prior to the first run on 11th September.
