Decking can transform any outdoor space, and in any season too. From entertaining your family and friends with BBQs in the summer to enjoying drinks in the hot tub or around a chimenea in the winter, the opportunities go on and on.
With frosty mornings, sudden downpours and spillages however, deck boards can quickly become a serious slip hazard.
And if you’re looking to make your decking safer to avoid accidents, the range of anti-slip options can be overwhelming. How do you know what’s right for you?
To make things that little bit easier, we’ve put together a handy guide on the different products out there.
Anti-slip coating provides a non-slip surface to polished or wooden surfaces. These coatings come in a range of colours to match the stain of the wood, varying from brand to brand, though they contain which white grit which can impact the appearance of dark wood.
This solution can be applied yourself but will take around eight hours to fully dry, can’t be applied to pre-treated wood, and may need re-applying each year.
Anti-slip decking boards
Anti-slip boards are decking boards with large rubber strips covering almost the entire surface of the panel. Some may find this unattractive, and while they are waterproof, it can be frustrating having to manually drain any surface water.
They come pre-fitted, so you would need to replace your existing decking if you went for this option.
