WJ Timber Treatments Ltd achieves PEFC Chain of Custody Certification

Today, we joined more than 22,000 companies around the world that have been awarded PEFC Chain of Custody certification. We invested in this rigorous assessment process to demonstrate our commitment to a sustainable future for the world’s forests. This certification provides assurances that we procure materials from sustainable, legal and traceable sources.

Chain of Custody certification is the process by which certified material can be traced from the forest to the end-user. It provides proof that the product, or product line, being sold is linked to legally managed and certified forests. Stringent PEFC standards track all timber products and wood fibre coming out of the forest to ensure that they originated in sustainably-managed forests. Chain of Custody documentation offers assurances that each stage of the supply chain has been monitored closely and audited according to independent, third-party verification. This unbroken link offers transparent proof that materials have been responsibly sourced.

Alex Torkington, Group General Manager commented on the certification stating “We’re committed to sourcing from responsibly managed forests. We are therefore proud to show our support for sustainable forest management. Our customers can be sure that the materials used to make our DeckWright anti-slip products can be traced back to PEFC certified forests.”

PEFC is an international non-profit organisation promoting sustainable forest management. The programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification is a mutual recognition programme for independent national forest certification schemes. PEFC strictly assesses national schemes against PEFC’s Sustainability Benchmarks. P{EFC’s goal is to create a world in which people manage forests sustainably ensuring an equitable balance between this social, ecological and economic functions. Today, over half a million forest owners manage more than 300 million hectares of forests according to PEFC’s Benchmark. The PEFC label guarantees products are from sustainably managed forests.
