WJ Group Win TTJ 2024 Innovation Prize With Timber Chassis Product

Last Friday, some of our team attended the Timber Trades Journal awards 2024 as our new timber chassis product was shortlisted for the Timber Innovation Prize. The TTJ describes the brief for the award as:

'Innovation is the application of better solutions that meet new requirements, unarticulated needs, or existing market needs. This is accomplished through more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are readily available to markets. The term innovation can be defined as something original and, consequently, something new that “breaks into” the market.

Innovation differs from invention in that innovation refers to the use of a better and, as a result, novel idea or method, whereas invention refers more directly to the creation of the idea or method itself.'



Our timber chassis fits perfectly into the category, providing a new and innovative solution and alternative to steel caravan chassis. The chassis, which is a combination of glulam and I-beam technology is a sustainable alternative, with our testing over the last few years showing less deflection compared to a steel chassis. The awards proved to be a fantastic afternoon of food, networking and celebration. Throughout our testing, WJ have involved Willerby Caravans, Hull-based caravan manufacturer working together to develop the chassis product. With feedback from Willerby and working closely with their technical team, our technical team have been able to design and manufacture the chassis, now launched to the market. For the awards, we were joined by two of Willbery Caravan's technical team, Rob Mooney, Technical Director and James Grantley from the technical team. 

The event was a huge success with our timber chassis winning the award. We would like to thank all those from the TTJ for their hard work setting up and hosting the event. We look forward to what the future holds with our chassis.
