FireWright's Natural Fire Retardant Timber Treatment Demonstration


We have created a demonstration video that helps to illustrate the effectiveness of our FireWright, natural fire-retardant timber treatment. The video details two identical plywood structures, made from eucalyptus plywood. One, treated with our FireWright treatment, the other untreated. In the corner of each structure, we have a flame source simulating a fire breaking out on the ground floor of the structure. Above, is a first floor with a ‘room’ built to help show the impact of the fire on the ceiling of a building. The fire is then started using dry kindling. As the internal fire grows, with the untreated plywood structure, we see a faster spread of flames impacting the plywood. The FireWright treated structure sees a very little flame spread and after the initial kindling has ignited and given off smoke, we see very no smoke emitted from the treated plywood. After initial ignition, we see that the untreated plywood structure burns very quickly in comparison to the plywood that we have treated. The results speak clearly for themselves with the floor of the building being completely destroyed and collapsing on the untreated structure compared with the treated structure which had minimal damage and remained in-tact. After the fire is extinguished, we can further see the damage to the plywood in which all four walls of the untreated structure are severely damaged and each of the walls were damaged right up to the top of the structure. With the untreated structure, we can also see that the face has been completely burned where the windows are placed, and that face has severe charring on the external face. The FireWright treated plywood structure has no damage to the exterior faces. As we inspect the integrity of the plywood that has been treated, we can see that the charring has only impacted one or two layers of the plywood and underneath these layers shows a clean face, this is a massive benefit to our impregnation of the fire-retardant treatment rather than a surface coating.
